Stumbled upon an article on dealing with a condo board which disappoints.
Nothing earth shattering in the article but the suggestion to think long and hard about picking a new management company makes a lot of sense in my opinion. A great management company can help the board make the right calls and stay on track. A bad one just makes a so-so board even worse.
Here's the full article.
Boy, do i have something to say about this! I lived for three years in The Vine building, in Belltown. The first year was fine, but things started to change rapidly. During my second year there, i left a small box of car cleaning products at the front of my parking space, and had to leave town for a family emergency for two weeks. During that time, the board send me two letters (both of which sat in my unopened mail box), and the third (certified) informed me that if i did not remove the box within 24 hours, they would begin legal procedures to force me to remove it. I thought this was a completely heavy handed action, and way, way, too strong of a statement for a minor situation like this. Then, paying huge prices for Association Fees, one service the concierge was supposed to do, is make sure that NO ONE got into the building without notifying the occupant. So, after several pizza’s arrived with the delivery person knocking at my front door, i finally called down to the front desk, and complained. They told me that they DID call me, and that i did not answer and then they got busy so they just let the guy in. My cell phone is the number they have, and i have it with me, and on, at all times because I am a physician, and need to be contacted by the hospital. The final thing that made me move was when i received several notices to remove my Mezuzah from the front of my door. (It is this small religious scroll that Jewish people place in front of thier door to bless and protect the home.) After my second certified letter, I informed the Board that I was responding to thier request by MOVING. I did just that, and have never been happier!
Condo Association Management:- Nice post, it is really interesting.
